BIOGRAPHY

Sam Liao, VP for JLG’s China Division, brings a whole new perspective to JLG’s China business consulting practice.  Born and raised in Brazil with Taiwanese origins, Sam spent most of his academic and professional career in China.  He has been in the epicenter of the start-up community in Beijing and has successfully assisted many startup companies.  Sam received his first law degree from Peking University Law School, trained in Sports Law at the University of Zurich School of Law and concluded his legal studies at Duke University School of Law with a Master of Laws degree.  His legal training roots to a white-shoe firm in New York City with focus in Capital Markets transactions.  Sam spearheads JLG’s presence in China to not only deliver the best quality service to our clients but to also bring the Wall Street experience locally.

Experience Highlights:

  • Participated in multiple REG S offerings representing underwriters and issuers. 

  • Coached over 60 startups, successfully provided fundraising strategies for over 20 projects in China.

  • Management of a child-education company as the President and CEO for over 5 years, turning a traditional business model into a franchising and lean operational model.

  • Participated in numerous kendo national level competition, finishing in top places for both team and individual competitions.
     

CREDENTIALS

  • Board member of 3 local Chinese start-up companies valued at 100M RMB each.

  • New York Bar pending admission

  • IKF/ROCKA Kendo 5-Dan (black belt) athlete

 

 

LANGUAGES

  • Fluent in English, Portuguese, Mandarin and operational ability in Spanish and Hokkien.
